"so erin, what did you learn at school today?"

"well mom, our studio framed up a wall with a door opening and i got to use the nail gun....

....and i cut some 2x4s on the band saw, and my teacher gave me an A++ because i didn't hurt myself or others!!"

yeah, i was utterly excited about the whole thing...power tools ARE fun!!
we have a "swear jar" in our studio because our prof is also a christian youth leader on the side, and i think today we all decided that the swear jar is going to be null and void on the job site...

we've already been given the speech about having nail gun fights and shooting it at birds/squirrels(note that the part about shooting birds was not forbidden, just that you would probably miss them since our shop guy has tried this many a time without success...wow.). this closet thing is for the school and is supposed to be a little practice project before we get out onto the site and actually start framing up our house...but i'm still soooo excited!!!

for those not in the "know"...i'm taking a studio that is a design/build...meaning we were designing the house over the summer and we are starting the construction(aka free labor by those in the studio) in the fall...we start digging the ditch for foundation pouring the first week of school (jobsite hours: 8am - 3pm monday through friday along with research and writing for thesis--do you see why it rhymes with hell--no i can't really complain this design build is going to count towards 9 credit hours-6 as studio, 3 as a professional concerns class--don't ask me, i don't know what professional concerns is about either).
SOOOO ANYWAYS...you all should go check it out at this website(parts are still under construction)--and if you look under the week_1 /rural studio photos, i contributed quite a few!!

oh! oh! and tommorrow we get to do the gyp and finish it up!! ok, so it might only be exciting to me...
i already know what my dad would say..."wow erin, your the son i never had, cause you're my daughter"
but girls are tough too! and word of wisdom to all the boys that don't think so....never piss off a girl with a power tool in her hand...this could be you....or me for that matter i'm still new at this.
