this is my site: an aerial view thanks to google earth

this is the orientation of the site so that you can follow the historical map below
n. claiborn is runs as a frontage road underneath the i-10 freeway... directly above the little i-10 road notation is the projects i was referring to as being pretty rough. they extend back a couple of blocks. although it looks like quite a busy little intersection from the aerial shot, it's not all that crazy, and underneath the bridge on either side of the intersection, the area underneath the bridge,is simply laid out for parking and there were not many cars that utilized this current function. there were some people walking about but nothing too exciting.

this is that same intersection a little closer up
the time period is 1895-96
interesting that there is a pretty large canal that runs through that site, with another drainage canal the next block over...hope you can see what i'm talking about

this is a little broader view of site(same time period)

There seem to be quite a few cemetaries in the hood. Looks like the projects to the southwest off St.Louis Street are completely surrounded by them! I bet some interesting stuff happens in there.

yeah, i think that three factories/office buildings of some sort now sit RIGHT on top of where the cemetaries once were...CREEPY if you ask me..the projects(where they are currently located) sit right across the street from the cemeteries...i may be looking at the wrong view though, because i do remember driving past 2 cemeteries when heading out to take photos.

BUT, apparently it is pretty common in new orleans to simply relocate the grave markers and fancy tombs to another location and just build on top of the ground(without relocating the bodies).
one example of this is the football stadium for the saints...it lies RIGHT ON TOP of what used to be a massive presbrytirian cemetary...superstition has it that this is the reason that the saints never win when they play home games!!! i don't care because i don't really watch football anymore, but it's still creepy...
